Engineers Present

Today's Challenge: Create a Dynamic Presentation

Creating "WOWs" with 3D Star Wars tactics

We asked you how engineers could create a real "wow" factor in presenting their case to non- or less-technical audiences, especially when funding is on the line. The choices were for (1) single-line images, (2) static "paper dolls" or (3) a 3D video illustration...survey results of respondents are listed to the right.

Using essentially the same principles as George Lucas on Star Wars (flying a camera past a fully-built model to capture details and movement), engineers can create a stunning level of detail in movie format. Using an actual case study from Murata Systems, a team created tracks, pallets, and models of all ASRS systems and equipment in a virtual space which was filmed with a virtual camera.
